Along with David Emerald and Donna Zajonc Dr. Parlee is a Principal Partner in “The Power of Ted”

The Dreaded Drama Triangle (DDT)™ is a toxic interplay of three distinct roles; Persecutor, Victim and Rescuer, which was first articulated by Dr. Stephen Karpman in the 1960’s (and known as the Karpman Drama Triangle).

The central role in the DDT is Victim. In the Victim role, you may feel as if other people or situations are acting upon you, and you can’t do anything about it. Sometimes it feels like being attacked, and sometimes it’s just a hardship. You might feel mistreated or discounted, and maybe out of control. In TED* the role of Creator is the antidote to the Victim role in the DDT.

The second role is Persecutor or perpetrator in situations of abuse. The Persecutor is the perceived cause of the Victim’s woes. In TED* the role of Challenger is the antidote to the Persecutor role in the DDT.

The third role is Rescuer, the one who intervenes on behalf of the victim, to deliver the victim from harm by the Persecutor. While the Rescuer may have the best of intentions, their actions remove the Victim from responsibility, thereby reinforcing their Victim mindset. In TED* the role of Coach is the antidote to the Rescuer role in the DDT.

TED* (*The Empowerment Dynamic) is a positive alternative to the Drama Triangle, which was first described by Stephen Karpman, MD. The TED* Empowerment Roles Reconnecting to our dreams and desires, and taking action toward those outcomes requires a shift in mindset for most people. When “Shifts Happen” and you move into a Creator, Challenger or Coach role, greater awareness and options become available to you.
